About the artist

In 1990, Chuck received a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) from the University Of Missouri. This means he is trained in the classical way, used by Universities and artists for centuries. This includes an abundance of studio classes, heavy on the figure drawing and anatomical drawing, composition, painting, and color theory, to name a few of the elements. There were also long forays into photography and pottery, as well as quite a bit of art history and all the other things required to attain a Bachelors degree. With graduation drawing near, people would often ask Chuck what he planned to do next. His favorite reply was, "Cut the soles out of my shoes, climb a tree and learn to play the flute!" This answer brought many confused looks and absolutely no job offers, so he foolishly went back into construction work as a drywall finisher, prep cook or whatever disposable job came along in between adventures that called him elsewhere. The most fun of those adventures included designing two T-shirts and taking them on Grateful Dead tour. The shirts helped subsidize the tour, as did many plates of pancakes with free cup-less coffee and the best eggrolls ever. (Happy, Healthy Hippy food! Fresh veggie eggrolls, just a buck!!)

As is often the case, Peter Pan, a.k.a. Chuck, slowed down a bit and decided to mostly stay in the home town with the birth of his wonderful son, Keenan. Chuck has mostly done the bachelor Dad thing (the stereotypes are true!), but fortunately for him, he and Keenan's Mom managed to become cooperative friends and co-parents after a few inevitable bumps in the road.

However, staying in one place and keeping the same job (:{ 8 and a half years so far) is a tough assignment for a person with a nomadic nature and background. This conundrum required a creative solution. Tie Dye Express was the answer!! Chuck travels for short adventures, teaches or helps people to tie dye, then comes home; and it's a lot more fun than drywall finishing! Tie Dye Express started as (and still is) a craft show business where people can not only buy ready to wear tie dyes, they can make professional quality tie dyes on the spot, and wear them later the same day, if they have a place to wash them first! Children as young as 3 or 4 have made outrageously wonderful tie dye creations, with a little help at that age, and 100% by themselves in the older age groups. Check out the Satisfied Customers section in the gallery for some pictures of make it yourself tie dyes. All of this hands on training has led to the creation of a clear, easy to use and follow instruction book called The Awesome Amateur Tie Dye Book. Look for the soon to be finished version on this site in the near future. Now in the fourth year of Tie Dye Express Chuck is celebrating the opening of his web site, designed by his fine and wonderful lady and webmama, Tie Dye Queen. (She already held that title, the rest was destiny!) Chuck hopes you enjoy looking through the web site, and encourages you to buy liberally before returning to shop some more! Tie dye is a perfect all occasion gift for any gender, group or family, as well as being a pretty groovy thing to get for yourself!
Peace out, Love goes 'round and tie dye for all!
